What’s the Issue?
The class action lawsuit alleged that certain Mitsubishi vehicles were equipped with defective ZF-TRW airbag control units, which failed to deploy airbags during collisions. Plaintiffs argued these safety failures endangered drivers and passengers.
Although Mitsubishi denied any wrongdoing, the automaker agreed to the settlement to resolve the claims and avoid prolonged litigation.

The settlement covers current and former owners or lessees of these Mitsubishi vehicles as of November 1, 2024:
- 2013–2017 Mitsubishi Lancer
- 2013–2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
- 2013–2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart
- 2013–2016 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback
- 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander

What’s the Compensation?
Class members can receive:
- Cash Payment: Up to $250 per vehicle for submitting a valid claim. If funds remain after initial distributions, claimants could receive an additional payment of up to $750.
- Vehicle Inspection: Free inspections for class vehicles involved in qualifying accidents to ensure airbag functionality.
If funds are insufficient for a second payout, the remaining amount will be donated to a charitable cause.
